Synopsis

Hiroshima. Bikini Atoll. Chernobyl. Nevada. All nuclear landmarks towards which memory and imagination need no signpost. Yet the Cold War's most callous experiment has remained hidden from public knowledge for 60 years... In 1945, a huge test zone was constructed in northern Kazakhstan to trial the Soviet's growing arsenal of nuclear weapons. After four decades and more than 450 bombs, this area has reportedly received 20,000-times the radiation of Hiroshima. This is the largest, most sustained and most secretive nuclear experiment in history. "After the Apocalypse" reveals the untold story of the survivors who remain hostages of their history and homeland.

“After the Apocalypse” was developed through the EURODOC Programme 2006, was awarded the CBA/DFID Programme Development Fund in 2006, was selected to the Sheffield Doc/Fest MeetMarket 2007 and selected to The BRITDOC/Sundance Institute Good Pitch UK 2009. The film has now been commissioned by More4 for international feature documentary strand ‘True Stories’, for transmission in 2010.
