Pollphail selected to premier at the Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival
9 Sep 2009
Matthew Lloyd and Carina Wilson's creative documentary "Pollphail" will have its world premier at the Times BFI 53rd London Film Festival in October 2009.
The Times BFI London Film Festival showcases the best new films from around the world and this years line-up includes a diverse selection of world and international premieres, with a total of 191 features and 113 shorts screening over 16 days in October 2009.
"Pollphail" explores the imagined future of a village-in-limbo, built to great acclaim and expense during the 1970s oil boom, but never inhabited. Combining an unusual use of 'minds-eye' archive with stunning photography and a haunting soundscape, "Pollphail" unravels this unique and unsettling story to reveal a very different reality than that which was planned for the village, and clashing ideals about how its future should now play out...
The documentary has been selected to the 'Landscape as Character' category: "...landscape itself becomes an important character in these stories where the surroundings speak volumes. We always think of films as concerning people's stories, but sometimes the actual backdrop to those people's lives is equally important... This selection of films, many wordless where the landscape and the surroundings themselves speak volumes, are still strongly rooted in character and story". This category screens on Monday 26th (18:30) and Tuesday 27th (16:15) October 2009.
"Pollphail" was produced through the Bridging the Gap scheme, directed by Matthew Lloyd and produced by Carina Wilson, with Executive Producer Sarah Tierney.
