"Contempt of Conscience" has been selected to the "Ad Hoc: Inconvenient Films" human rights documentary festival 2009 in Lithuania
"Ad Hoc: Inconvenient Films” is the first film festival in the Baltic states with the mission of raising awareness of human rights issues through documentary. The festival is organised by the Lithuanian Centre for Human Rights in cooperation with WatchDocs: Human Rights International Film Festival in Poland. The festival takes place from the 22nd to 30th October 2009 in Vilnius, Lithuania, with additional screenings throughout the Baltic States.
Filmed over five years by director Joe Jenkins, “Contempt of Conscience” follows UK campaign group The Peace Tax Seven as they fight to redirect the proportion of their taxes destined for military spend to peaceful means. Placing conscientious objection in its historical and social context, the documentary combines striking visual archive with the engaging struggle of the Peace Tax Seven, taking us on a journey from the group’s inception, to the arrival of the bailiffs, through the British High Court and beyond…
"Contempt of Conscience" had its World Premiere at the 13th Milano Film Festival in September 2008, followed by screenings at the PSBT/UNESCO Open Frame Film Festival (India) 2008 and Beyond TV International Film Festival (UK) 2008. The documentary is represented by Journeyman Pictures and has been acquired by Press TV and Al Jazeera English.
